Essential Function:
The main role of the Underwriting Associate is to support the Underwriting Team with various operational processes related to the lifecycle of an account. While not all-inclusive, typical job duties for the Underwriting Associate include the following:
- File Setup and Maintenance: Labeling and sorting files and relevant emails for auditing purposes.
- Submission Clearance: Handle rush submissions and ensure timely processing.
- Bind Orders: Review and process bind orders. Determine if able to bind as requested by evaluating information received with the bind order. Advise the broker of any additional information needed.
- Review Subjectivities: Review subjectivities with underwriters’ approval.
- Policy Issuance: Issue policies as needed.
- Endorsement Processing: Process endorsement requests, determine accurate and clear wording for the endorsement body, and notify the broker of any additional premiums.
- Report Analysis: Analyze reports and paperwork for accuracy and compliance with binding requirements.
- Renewal Preparation: Assist with preparing account renewals.
- Other Duties: Perform other duties as required by the supervisor.
Competencies:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat DC
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Detail-oriented
- Ability to be a team player and respond quickly to team requests
- Customer service skills and the ability to interact via phone and email with a wide variety of people
- Open to learning about the insurance industry
Required Education or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent industry experience
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in insurance or risk management
- Knowledge of the underwriting process and required forms/endorsements
